「Situation als Akt 12,39,72,3,16」

CON_ presents Situation als Akt 12,39,72,3,16 – Philipp Groth’s first solo exhibition at the gallery continues the artist’s intuitive practice of transforming everyday materials into ephemeral situations.

Groth increasingly uses charcoal drawings to describe the interdependencies held contained in these arrangements which feature both manufactured and natural components. Overall, the exhibition carves out space for the viewer to reconnect with the flow of materials in the city, forming a vocabulary that describes the ambiguity of collective memory, time and space.

Philipp Groth @philipp_groth/

Philipp Groth is a German artist born at the French border whose work explores the ephemeral tandem of human perception, objects, space, and the body in relation to their environment. He lives and works in Chicago and Berlin.

For Groth, the transformations of spaces beyond conditions first manifested themselves at a young age in skateboarding, providing the early context for a deep and growing interest in architecture, the transformation of public space, and filmmaking. Trained in the traditional craft of film directing at the University of the Arts London, from where he received a Master's Degree with honors, Groth’s filmic work has been shown and selected by institutions and festivals including the Tribeca Film Center New York ("100 years of Bauhaus" - New York City, NY, United States, 2019), The Goethe Institute ("Dialectics at a Standstill" - Chicago, IL, United States, 2022), König Galerie Berlin ("Intervention St. Agnes" - Berlin, Germany, 2021), König Galerie Tokio ("Solidarity is the only enemy of misery" - Ginza, Tokyo, Japan, 2020) and the Independent Film Festival Berlin ("How to tell Gunshots from Fireworks", Germany, Berlin, 2022).

During residencies in New York and Los Angeles, Groth emersed himself into American Minimalism and later worked with the David Lynch Foundation on the Festival of Disruption as well as independent films including a collaboration with artist and designer Virgil Abloh ("Paris is for Lovers" - Milan, Italy, 2017), whom Groth refers to as a mentor and friend on his artistic path. In the same year he was selected to show an array of photographs within a group exhibition (“Hyundai Commission: Superflex: One Two Three Swing!” - London, United Kingdom, 2017) at the Tate Modern in London.

His interdisciplinary practice has since expanded, with sculpture, installation, and an array of works on paper and canvas, allowing him to move freely between spaces and ideas and exhibiting at Galleries such as Kanya+Kage Galerie Berlin (“Konversation mit den jungen Wilden” - Berlin, Germany, 2019), König Galerie Berlin (“RE02” - Berlin, Germany, 2021), SITE Galleries (“New Work” - Chicago, United States, 2022) and MANA Contemporary.

In 2018, Groth accepted a teaching position at SRH University of Applied Sciences in Berlin where he taught film production and directing. Simultaneously, he founded the Berlin based art studio Acte TM, using a collaborative working methodology to operate at the intersection of art, design, and film.

Groth is currently an MFA Candidate in Studio Art with focus on moving image at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and recipient of SAIC’s Dean Professional Development Award in the consecutive years 2021 and 2022.

Philipp Groth

The Tribeca Film Center New York ("100 years of Bauhaus" - New York City, NY, United States, 2019), The Goethe Institute ("Dialectics at a Standstill" - Chicago, IL, United States, 2022), König Galerie Berlin ("Intervention St. Agnes" - Berlin, Germany, 2021), König Galerie Tokio ("Solidarity is the only enemy of misery" - Ginza, Tokyo, Japan, 2020) and the Independent Film Festival Berlin ("How to tell Gunshots from Fireworks", Germany, Berlin,

同年、彼はグループ展である(“Hyundai Commission: Superflex: One Two Three Swing!”
