KOESY

KOESYは、韓国・蔚山（Ulsan）生まれのアーティストである。正規の美術教育は受けていないが、直感と長い時間をかけた試行錯誤を通じて、独自の造形言語を形成してきた。

制作の初期段階では、デジタル領域における3Dグラフィックを主な表現手段としていた。しかし次第に、画面の向こう側にある形を「実際に触れたい」という欲求が強くなっていく。存在を確かめるためには、視覚だけでなく、重みや質感といった物理的な感覚が不可欠であると感じるようになった。その必然的な流れの中で、制作の軸足は仮想空間から物理的な彫刻表現へと移行していった。

KOESYは、作品に明確な意味や物語を与えることを意図的に避けている。制作行為は、目的地の定まらない散歩のようなものだという。ただ「作ること」そのものと、その結果として残る「形」に集中することで、思考や感情がかたちとして定着していくプロセスを重視している。

本展のタイトルである「Red Winter」は、外界が夏であるにもかかわらず、内面では常に冬の中にいるように感じていた、ある個人的な時間感覚に由来する。季節とは切り離され、身体の奥に留まり続けていた冷たさ——その感覚を、形としてすくい取る試みである。

KOESY is an artist born in Ulsan, South Korea. Without having received formal art education, KOESY has developed a distinct sculptural language through intuition and a long process of trial and accumulation over time.

In the early stages of their practice, KOESY worked primarily with 3D graphics in the digital realm. Gradually, however, a strong desire emerged to physically touch the forms that existed beyond the screen. To affirm their existence, visual perception alone was no longer sufficient; the artist came to feel the necessity of bodily sensations such as weight and texture. This natural progression led KOESY’s practice from virtual space toward the creation of physical sculptural works.

KOESY deliberately avoids assigning fixed meanings or narratives to their works. Their approach to making is akin to a walk without a predetermined destination. By focusing solely on the act of making itself and on the forms that remain as its outcome, KOESY emphasizes the process through which thoughts and sensations settle into tangible shapes.

The title of this exhibition, Red Winter, derives from a personal sense of time in which, despite the external world being in summer, the artist felt as though they were internally residing in a perpetual winter. Detached from the seasons, this lingering coldness deep within the body is an attempt to be grasped and rendered into form.
